Also, I would mention that the new Omni VII will also turns down to about 3
watts or so. No mods required.

Since both the Omni VI Plus and the Omni VII have separate RX inputs, I use
a 20 dB attenuator between the output of the radio and the input of the
transverter. This allows the radio to operate at about 15 watts and gets
about 150 mW into the transverter. Also, should I forget and wack it with
full power, the transverter doesn't get fried. My 20 dB attenuator is a PI
configuration using a 50 ohm 25 watt load for the input R, a 51 ohm 1/2 watt
R for the output value and a 200 ohm 1/2 watts R for the series element
between the input and output. Now these values don't make for an exact 50
ohm input but neither the radio nor the transverter seem to care. The loss
is about 20 dB which is all that counts. I use a separate RX line from the
transverter to the AUX RX input.

Also should note that my transverters are DownEast Microwave units that only
require about 100 mW to 150 mW of drive for full output.
