I am totally deaf so there is not much hope of me putting in a useful entry on
a big contest event.  However there is fun to be got by overcoming the
difficulties - so during the last UK NFD  I set myself at task to work 4
seperate 1 hour shifts, observing the rule that I must QSY to another BAND
having made a contact.  I only managed 3 of the hours sessions but made 48
contacts, surprisingly 44 of them were into Europe !.  I might add that I have
a 80m OC wire dipole,  a MFJ 993B and an Orion - so the equipment makes it
easier for me.

As a former contester, I can attest to Jerry's point of view. Sometimes I work
Field Day, but not to contest - just to have fun and occasionally give someone
a few points.

I have no intention of even submitting a score. I don't seek contacts and just
'lope-along'. Occasionally I'll take a sip without concern to someone's rate.

There are many good operators and some can be obsessed contesters. I saw that
years ago and decided contesting is not for me. Don't expect me to
whip through
a QSO at light speed to keep the rate up. After all, I tend to 'chew' a bit.
Contesters may not work me, because I tend slow 'em down.
