The PROBLEM with the Eagle is, it is not very popular, in general.
If you are going alone, it's great.
But if you are going on an expedition with 20 other guys, you need to
take
rigs that people are familiar with an like.
Ten-Tec has always been "different" and on expeditions, the boys
don't like
different.
Besides, although the USB connection is innovative, we pay the price.
Many of the common software programs won't integrate properly with it
and
that's a shame.
Lots of programs use OMNIRIG as the rig I/F and they have yet to write a
driver for a USB rig.
I tried to get them to do it but they replied with "write it yourself".
You can generally run the program in Orion2 mode, but there will
always be
things that don't work.
On the other hand, everything works with the K3.

Bry, let me put it this way...
If I was going on a trip or a DXpedition, where size and weight of
the radio
was a major consideration (such as air travel restrictions on
luggage), I
would probably take a K3 with me, all else being equal.
But if that wasn't the case, that is, physical size wasn't an
issue... I'd
take my Omni VII or even the Omni VI+. I'm just more comfortable
with the
larger front panel and layout.
And I wouldn't rule out the Eagle over the K3, I just haven't used one
enough to know if I'd like it under traveling conditions. (Now, if
anyone
wants to send me an Eagle to evaluate, I won't turn them down... but
that
never happens...)

Do you mean that the ergonomics might bother some people ?

The Elecraft K3 is an incredible radio at a fair price point. You can
"accessorize" it to suit your wallet. With the panadaptor and filter

platform.
Sorry. Agree with everything you say except the K3 is a lateral move
and best be sure K3 ergonomics will be suitable to you. I have done a
serious amount of operating on both platforms.
