If I had kept my Eagle, it would be running with N4PY software because
of the way the user profile is set up for memories and RIT. The N4PY rig
program would be the way to go for sure, but I am not used to using
control programs on the computer and would prefer to use the front panel
of the rig.
However, if you are a cw op I would recommend the N4PY software program
for the Eagle, running it with the front panel will give you a headache.

I would say it lost in "monetary value", not in value.
The original Orion is still a great radio - better than most.
IMO, the best buy on the market today is a used OR1.
However, like you, I too am a retiree and will not be buying another
expensive radio - no matter what.
The cost of the Eagle was about the extent of what I'll ever be able to
afford for a new radio.
All of the complaints I have with the Eagle are overcome as soon as I boot
up N4PY software!
So it may just be my last radio.
Of course my sanity checker (James) will remind me there is no Omni-Rig
support and spoil my day.
But anyone reading carefully and understanding contesting a little will note
that I said I plan to switch to the "classic" class this year, and that
fixes the Omni-Rig problem too. :-)

I'm a retiree with a modest home and a modest automobile. I won't be buying
any $8,000 transceiver. The most expensive transceiver I ever bought was
the Orion and it lost a significant portion of its value when the Orion II
was announced not terribly long after the introduction of the original.

Ten Tec needs to have a price that allows them to make a profit.
I would think a price for this new rig would be around $6,000.
