Hi All, well that was a pointless exercise, replaced the foam around the 
buttons, reassembled and no change, checked all the buttons with a 
multimeter, all working, getting 2.35v on the working mode, requires 
several push's of a couple of the buttons that work to change modes.
Now found that i am getting no audio out either from the ext speaker 
socket on the internal speaker.
The reset button was broken, replaced and 1 very small problem solved.
Any suggestions about where to go next please, tq
