Normally I don't make duplicate contacts with an expedition where I
am confident that my contact was a good one, so as not to take a
chance away from someone else who needs it too. After looking at the
electronic log for V5/ZS6YG, however, I may have to rethink that
approach.
Early on in the expedition I worked V5/ZS6YG for a new one on 160 (or
so I thought); he was very loud, and when I called him, he came back
with "W1YY r ur 599", and I replied accordingly. Though I heard him
many times afterwards, often with few calling, I did not work him
again. As it happened, on the last day or two of the expedition, I
also heard V5/W8UVZ on 160, so I worked him too.
Last night I saw the elctronic logs of both posted on the Reflector,
and, lo and behold, the log for V5/ZS6YG showed "W1YYR" (who doesn't
exist, by the way). Had I not by happenstance also made contact with
W8UVZ, I'd have been out of luck.
I'm not sure what the right answer is on dupe contacts on a band like
160 where copy can often be so marginal, but I guess it's food for
thought.
