Belden 9913 has considerably less loss at vhf and microwave frequencies
than RG-213. It costs less because there is less material used than in
RG-213. However, the losses are almost the same at HF. My choice would
be the RG213 for phasing lines etc. at HF because it has better Ultra
Violet protection and is less susceptible to abrasion and chemical
solvents. The jacket on 9913 is quite good as well but does not have
quite the ratings of the RG-213.
All coaxial cables will wick up water. I have yet to really see one as
better than another. The problem is more related to connector design
than anything else. Here in Las Vegas we get little rain. However it
does usually occur in torrential downpours. I have had well taped and
sealed connectors with dielectric displacement material still wick the
water about 3 inches into the line. Not good at any frequency...I've
been experimenting with unions of cable within sleeve of vinyl tubing
with cable connectors at the apex in a "U" shape forming drip loop.. I'm
really beginning to think that connectors that breath are better in lieu
of nitrogen pressurized hard-line.
