I am one of the members of the upcoming 3Y0X Peter 1st DXpedition (see
www.peterone.com for details). I hope to work lots of you
on 160. I expect to have to fight my way to the radio as there are several
other topbanders on the trip - hi!
The recent discussion on the reflector about "noise" is well-timed. One of
my jobs on the team is "Mr. IT". The container has
left Savannah, GA for Chile with nine logging computers, Ethernet hubs and
switches, fiber optics, weather logging equipment, etc.
Add to this the mass of battery chargers (VHF handheld radios, cameras, video
equipment, etc) and the ubiquitous wall-wart power
supplies for just about everything.
So, I worry about self-inflicted RFI: blips, bleeps, bloops and birdies
generated by all this stuff.
While we have done some integration testing in Atlanta, time did not permit
an exhaustive investigation for RFI on all bands.
Not all the equipment that will be on the island was available.
I plan to assemble an "RFI Cure Kit": a first-aid kit of stuff that could be
used to reduce the impact of RFI on our operations.
What would you include in such a kit? What kind of quantities, or ratios
(e.g.; equal number of ferrite rods and ferrite
rings?)?
Thanks for participating in this little Delphi oracle exercise. I'll
summarize the results on the Peter 1st website.
