The point of the organizing committee is that they are NOT anything
approaching equal, because Northern hemisphere winter is a lousy
time for 160 in the southern hemisphere. Imagine a 160 contest on
Field Day weekend -- that's what it's like in the Southern
Hemisphere for the Stew Perry contest!
I applaud the organizers, who have already established a really nice
contest, for trying to improve it by taking a less parochial view of
the world. I agree that a WORLDWIDE 160 contest much closer to
either the spring or fall equinox is a good idea, either as a
supplement to, or as a replacement for, the current date. And I
agree that it makes sense to modify the times so that it falls on a
weekend worldwide (that is, Fri/Sat on one side of the date line,
Sat/Sun on the other.
