In my experience, this is a good antenna, with no arcing as in the older
402BA. The only weak spot I found was in the reflector element clamp,
which is the smaller #13 size (1.25" ID; the driven element uses #14,
1.5" ID). If you have high winds, I would make a spacer of 1.5"x.125"
aluminum tubing, slit to slide over the element, and use the #14 clamp.
For really high wind situations, I've been experimenting with using a
double-thick clamp, two clamp sections on each side, with SAE-size
stainless washers between them at each clamp bolt so the bolt clamping
force is directed to the inner clamps to grab the element tightly. You
can also use only one additional doubler rather than two if space is
tight, as on the LP1009 with its transmission line over the boom. This
is in response to the largest LP element dropping out after the wind
deformed the clamp (otherwise no failures at 130+ mph).
