One thing I've seen and I know has been seen by others, is that after a few 
insertions the female connector may not spring all the way back. You then wind 
up with a partial contact that might be easier to toast. I've carefully used a 
very small screwdriver to push the four center connector pieces back and been 
okay at a kw up to 2 meters.
