MIke (K7IR) and John (WA7IR) Mertel came out to the monthly MIRO (Mercer
Island Radio Operators) meeting this evening and gave us an impressive
presentation of their SteppIR antenna. There's been some discussion recently
here on TT about beam choices and I wanted to throw in my $0.02 worth.
The presentation was a bit of a sales pitch (no blame in that), but the real
message was that there's some absolutely astounding engineering behind this
antenna. To hear and see (from a PowerPoint presentation and a live demo
model) how they build these things is really convincing. Had I not read so
many positive comments on this technology on various discussion groups, I
would have been skeptical. Mike and John showed us all the intricate details
of how these mechanical marvels work. And threw in a bunch of extra
information on how Yagi's and verticals really work. Even if I wasn't going
to buy a SteppIR, I learned a lot about how to build a really efficient
antenna.
So, in short, I will soon own a SteppIR. Go to the SteppIR.com Web site and
learn for yourself. You cannot be unconvinced.
