Hello to all,
Just had to toss in here...why all the fuss. I have had a dipole of about
140ft long in the air for over 3 years now in N. ID....1/2" ice and 50-60 mph
winds so far...and it hasn't come down! Center fed with 450 ohm window line to
tuner. Made it out of ROMEX...2/14 with Gnd...just cut it and daisy chained the
conductors back to the center, and put the thing in the air...worky, worky.
The 250ft roll was on sale for about $14 back then, now they are about $19 I
think.
The notes about "hard drawn" copper and copper clad steel seem more aimed at
commercial applications or for someone that cares...sic.
Used 2" gray sch 80 PVC pipe for my end insulators...just "S-turned" the
Romex through 3 holes of 3/8" each. Tied off with 3/16th's Dacron rope from 'ol
Home Depot. (They call it polyester rope, but list Dacron as 100% content).
Maybe it will come down this winter...will watch it from the hot tub! This is
the home of the KISS method of radio.
73,
Mel Frost
