How about using some solid fiberglass rod for the coil forms? You
should be able to find it in diameters from 1/2" up to almost 2" if you
search hard and long.
I'd use center-loading as opposed to linear-loading .. you can
'link-couple' to the driven element, eliminating some feedpoint problems.

ruff idea of its shape and height. It carries electrical wires in side it

This is where the hits have been occurring.

My name is John Bennett and I Captain a 100ft sailing yacht, which has a
45m
carbon fibre mast. We have LPS-Standard lightning prevention devices, ie.
Static dissipaters, but we have been hit twice by what we think was a
static
charge. Those dissipaters are grounded through our keel bolts. In the
photo
attached, you can see the 2 brushes covered with plastic and the multi
purpose aerial being the highest point in the photo. When we race, we also
have carbon wind instruments that are 1.90m above the top of the mast and
both times this has been hit. It has electrical wires inside the tubular
structure and the lightning charge travelled down that, damaging a lot of
equipment connected to it.
I know if we go through another storm we will get hit again so I am trying
to reduce our chances.
If you have any ideas about our problem and any possible solutions, I will
be extremely grateful as having to replace everything twice was bad enough
but a third time will be very testing.

Dick, rather than mess with coils just make dipole or 2 el beam with
fiberglass poles and string some wire inside of it for 40 meters, than let
the excess wire hang down. Most of your current is in the middle and
having
bent ends will not diminish your efficiency very much. Kind of like a
Moxon,
but with the wires hanging down.

you can just let the extra wire hang or tie it together.

Just "hearsay", but I had a customer (nothing at all to do with towers,
etc.) who called her insurance company regarding a claim, didn't like
the answers she got off-hand and demanded to get higher up the
food-chain for answers, and was told that doing so *would* be a black
mark against her... of course, that's here in FL, where insurance
companies are used to flogging us. They'll cancel you at the drop of a
hat here. They summarily cancelled my policy on the Monday the 16th
following our recent Friday the 13th hurricane, on a house I'd owned
only a few months, with the policy paid-in-full for a year, and no
claims. The Insurance Commisioner spanked 'em for that, but it gives you
an idea of how it sometimes goes here.
FWIW that was Tower Hill Insurance.
