I LIVE 3 BLOCKS FROM THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE .. take into consideration ..
I just switched from having (for 5 years) PacBell DSL, 5 static IPs,
~300-400 up, ~ 1.5 down .. to the new Cox 5 down, 1 up ... worky worky worky
... have had as gud as 9 down, but it is hard to believe the modem will do
that .. but, seems to! 7 down pretty not-unusual ... UP .. well .. never
wunnerful like the down numbers, but usually ~400 - 1000
...Heck of it all, now Cox has announced they shall sell our "Behind the
Redwood Curtain" business.. ahhhh ... what next .. BTW .. never, never ..
after 1st month's horsin' `roun' ... NEVER prob with Pacbell, unless the
contractor down around Santa Rosa mined a line with his backhoe.
Bottom line .. cable good .. DSL good .. DirecWay OK .. but .. lag -- still
beats heck out of 56K ..
I still, even though "retired", take care of a lot of computers .. and keep
on top of whatta hey is going on. The problem getting the BPL into the
non-availble sites now will be over-run by new technology, and guess who
makes the bux .. when they already know that what is being proposed is
"HISTORY": Producing Edsels when there is no need, but boy .. they get
paid!
My cost .. was a deal for 2 months, now .. $54.95/mo -- used to was $65--
DSL -- but .. had 5 static IPs .. now 1 Dynamic.
I still am a rep for the best LL ISP in the area .. QUIK - which is what
SOME need...... and all they need .. locally.
BPL is junque, before it hits the airwaves.
Mark . AA6DX Tower Monkey .. way back!
