This seems to apply across the Western world these days. While one can 
understand environmental concerns, one has to wonder exactly where the economy 
will end up when we have no manufacturing left because of labour and 
environmental costs. Plus the extra costs because some of the best plating 
methods aren't allowed anymore e.g. cadmium plate and passivate.
It's interesting that the requirements in Europe for everything having lead 
free solder don't apply to military and medical and space stuff, where 
reliability is paramount......despite environmental concerns!
