As a reduction ad absurdum, if renting a station is illegal under 97.113 so
must be selling one.

Not at all.

When transmitting on a rented station, "the station" with specified location is under the license of the owner. You can use your call, but the station is licensed to him, thus "operating" he is letting you operate his station for money.

"IF" it is done in such a manner that the station is listed with the FCC as your station, then it'd be legal, hence "remote stations"

This is entirely different than selling your station. I'd assume you could sell a station including the site and the new owner could operate from that site

It's seems as if any DX or contesting from anothers station would have to list the stations license which is specific to the site. If you visit a station and use your call, it's still his station.

I have a feeling, contest and awards committees will take this into consideration.

 It would be interesting as to how they view it.

TT:

      When a local posting on this showed up here a few months ago, I protested
that this service can't be legal. See below, especially
97.113(a)(2) and (3):

"Sec. 97.113 Prohibited transmissions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"(a) No amateur station shall transmit:
"(1) Communications specifically prohibited elsewhere in this part;

"(2) Communications for hire or for material compensation, direct or indirect,
paid or promised, except as otherwise provided in these rules;

"(3) Communications in which the station licensee or control operator has a
pecuniary interest, including communications on behalf of an employer, with the following
exceptions: ...."

      The exceptions are concerned with for-sale adverts on the air if this
isn't the operator's line of work and a few others.

      IMHO, the station licensee leasing time on his super station for this
purpose is in violation of this Section of the Rules. But that's just me.

Isn't it against the rules to make money or receive reimbursement for the
use of an Amateur Radio station?
