The concrete base needs to be protected during the early stages of curing
(say 3 days) from:-
Frost - cover with straw / blankets / polystyrene sheets
Extreme rainfall - cover with plastic / tarpaulin
Extreme heat and sunshine - cover with blanket / hessian and keep damp
You'll be able to remove any formwork and work around the base from about 7
days. 28 days curing to near maximum strength is normal and while you can
include additives to hasten or retard curing, it's probably best to leave
these to the professionals.

Tom,
Base was poured in August 2012. I actually wrapped a blanket around the base
and kept that damp. This was recommended by the concrete vendor.
It has been in for over a year and already gone through one New Hampshire
winter with no issues.

Doug:
One thing you might do is what I was told when I put in my base back in
1993. Lightly water the concrete base daily. I mean lightly, no gushers,
etc. Just a sprinkle for a couple minutes. This helps take out the heat
from the curing concrete. I mnust have worked because my 4x4x6 ft base is
still in fine shape as when I put it in.

My US Tower first advised 90 days, but the eventually relented and told
me
28. I think I waited six to eight weeks; don't remember now.
Remember, though, that none of us are structural engineers. You might
want
to check around to be sure. But, I believe that's standard information
and
you should be able to google something up from a reputable source.
