Customer service defines what a company is all about. You treat the
customers as though each one is important...because they are. Without the
customer, there is no business.

Many companies serve a "niche market" and give great service...Tarheel and
Elecraft to mention a couple. Niche markets don't necessarily mean crappy
service.

Nowhere in my post did I complain about the quality of MFJ products. I
have no problem with that, just the lousy customer service. My MFJ 259 also
has worked well for years, but that has nothing to do with service. By the
way, this is not a one time occurrence with that company. As I mentioned,
I had a real nightmare with my AL-1500 and the time it took to get that
fixed (3 trips to Ameritron and several months) before it was right.
Customer service is why I sold it and got an Acom instead.

The companies set up for business in ham radio do not do it out of the
goodness of their hearts, they do it for a profit. We owe them nothing.
However, when we spend our $$ it is reasonable to expect a good product and
decent service when the equipment is returned for repair. Although MFJ
achieves the first expectation, it is woefully inadequate on the second.

Doug,

You are a brave commentator... don't you know it's an old passtime to bash
MFJ and even other vendors like ALPHA, Mosley, Hy-Gain, Cushcraft, etc.
get
bashed by some. I think the bashing occurs from frustrations fed by a
lack
of experience and understanding of what it takes to operate a company that
serves a niche market which will not support large profit margins. In
otherwords, yes, MFJ could certainly build higher quality products but
those
same hams that bash MFJ wouldn't buy the more expensive product and they
would whine about the cost! MFJ could have the gear built in CHINA...
then
they get bashed for doing it!
Some operators who don't have much to talk about that is technical or
interesting lean towards bashing because it is so easy to do... sort of
like
CNN's breaking news that is continuously breaking and yet it is the same
old
garbage....;-)

I've had a 259B for many years and it works well and meets my expectation.
If I wanted to spend $15,000 on an Anritsu analyser. I'm sure I'd love it
but couldn't justify the expense for the few times I would use it to tweak
a
dipole or yagi. I'd rather spend the money on a tower and antenna.
