| To the gentlemen's question, if you are not near a BC station and the use is
primarly outside, the 259 is really a good box. But it really depends on
your intended application and importantly if you want a stand-alone unit or
something that is PC powered. All of these suggestions are good but the
best choice would be driven by economics and need.

I have no knowledge of MFJ equipment. With a real vector analyzer,
calibrated
with OSL standards, I would expect that the effects of any filtering could
be
mitigated, although dynamic range and possibly stability would likely be
compromised.

<I second Jim's remarks about the VNWA 3E (and Dan's, AC6LA, software).? I
use
mine in the field with a 10" touch screen tablet computer (Motion)
running, uck,
Windows 10.? Not quite as friendly as a laptop but much more rugged.? If
need
be, I can save measurement data in a file and transfer it to the desk
computer
via Wi-Fi for additional analysis.
I have a couple of 50KW BC stations nearby that I've measured at -3dBm on
my
inverted-l.? As long as I start a sweep at 1.7 MHz or above I have no
issue with
them.

## I thought the 259B and 259C had an optional HP filter for em..to kill
AM broadcast ?
Thought it had a cut off of 1.8 mhz. Or will a HP filter screw up the
readings on test gear,
like vnas etc ?
