Correct , there is a lot of tolerance on extruded tubing and it will likely

No. The 1-1/4 inner tube will not necessarily fit inside the 1-1/2 in tube

You might look at the variety of clamps used in theatrical work (Cheseboro is one brand) that are used to clamp pipes together. There's nothing that says your mast has to be in a straight line - you could overlap two by a foot with a couple clamps.

an example: https://www.gripsupport.com/post/2017/06/20/new-cheseboro-clamp-design

a couple of swivels is one way

but would be a bit expensive.

Also Pipe Sleeves (designed to join two pipes end to end)

most scaffolding and grip equipment places have a wide variety of this kind of stuff.

OK, I just submitted an RFQ to Industrial Metal Supply for the following:
Two 12' lengths of 6061 Aluminum tube, 1-1/2" outer diameter, 1/8" wall
thickness.
One 6' length of 6061 Aluminum tube, 1-1/4" outer diameter, 1/4" wall
thickness.

The thick inner tube will be placed inside the joint and pinned. We will use
drive-on steps at the very bottom, a mast bracket at the 2' level, and a
"guy" holding the two masts together over the roofline of the RVs.

Does this sound reasonable? Any additional tips or suggestions before I buy
the materials would be appreciated. Thanks for the help you've already
provided. :-)

Ross, NS7F
