I did a little research and I'm using  whats called thimble end rods, which are
designed for direct application of the dead end.  The tower's been up for 25
years but not much on it...yet.  But I hit one of griips with a mower and broke
a couple of strands, which is what started the whole discussion with my mentor.
I would have been smarter to use shackles for servicing (and of course, not
mow near the anchor!), but what I did meets spec for my 3/8" Big Grips
I'm not sure why I had such a hard time finding these grip specs in  my size,
but here's the

Since we are chatting about guy termination.  Is it Ok to use a 3/8” Big Grip
on a single guy anchor rod without using a shackle or thimble?  It was
suggested that I needed a thimble at the rod end, but that’s not even possible
without an intermediate shackle of some sort.

A Big-Grip would go though the eye of the turnbuckle on the tower side
regardless if an equalizing plate was used or not.  Connecting the
turnbuckle to the anchor rod may be an issue, depending on the jaw opening.
This is another reason to purchase the proper plates.

Good point Tim.

But he said nothing about preforms.

I was assuming the anchor rods were the kind with the 'fist" ends, which
are made to have multiple wires wrapped through them. I thought he was
going to use cable clamps or compression sleeves, not big grips. That
sort of install is fine for a 60' tower.

But yes, you know what they say about assumptions...
