Somehow this was cut off and sent before finished...Thanks Juno..HI
The remarks by AD6E are right on. Casual contesters make contesting fun
and the top stations have a way of attracting them. Contest checkers (I
hate the word judges) do try to get a substantial number of these
stations to send along a check log or a list of contacts made so there is
more of a level playing field.
Uniques are also attracted by the top stations. We certainly don't want
to discourage those from building a top performing station by deleting
uniques. In the CQ 160 contests uniques only come into play as a factor
if a station reaches 3% unique contacts. The average uniques is less
than .8% Above 3% the log is checked closely and above 7% the log can
be disqualified. We don't want padding of the log from say the call book
to occur but its hard to detect without unique guidelines.
I still feel that human review of UBN's (at least for top scores) is
required.
