While I haven't done the new SSB messages, my read is that, in setting up,
you get to pick,
either record with ShiftFn OR use the second set of messages.
For my money, the 10 I have is fine and I record on the fly a lot,
especially
when running split on 40 and 75. the first time you send your info with
listen freq,
you send it over the air and at the same time record on the fly. then you
have it until the next time you need to change.

I have always had the same problem here. The Writelog docs and K9JY's
website indicate that you set up Shifted SSB memories with the appropriate
.wav files. Then to send you should press Shift Fn for whatever message you
want to send. However, the docs also say Shift Fn enables the Record on the
Fly feature which records over the .wav files in the normal SSB mesage
buffer. Something ain't right here folks!!!
