At one time, about 5 years ago, I corresponded in detail with ICOM America
about the inadequacy of their command set. Despite it having a bewildering
array of commands, it fails to include the ability to allow the interface to
report which VFO is TX, if it is in split or in dual watch. It allows you to
set, but not read the status. Speaking in person with one of the ICOM America
reps at Dayton I got an answer they did not care to put in writing...namely
that they had taken this up with Japan several times and were ignored. A
friend of mine even raised the issue in person with the President of ICOM
Japan. All to no avail!
Since that time they have continued to release radios without these important
commands. These features are present on some of their competitors radios.
Maybe they will surprise us after all these years, but I am not holding my
breath.
