There can be a number of reasons for your inability to remain
connected. Hardware: I once had a machine with a flaky ethernet
card...replaced it...problem solved. Try connecting on a different
machine using a different SSID, i.e. K2MK-6 for example and see if both
that connection and the one on your shack computer are subject to the
same disconnection problems. If it common to both machines, then the
common elements, your router or ethernet switch or cable modem are
called into question.
It could be your ISP, for example the signal level on your cable
connection could be low or intermittent. I have had this issue at
home. The cable company corrected it out at their distribution box.
Software...probably not a Writelog issue as many would be complaining
and it is quite rare to hear this complaint on the reflector.
One solution may be for your to install VE7CC's CC-User program
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ARUser/ to act as an intermediary between
Writelog's telnet client and your chosen DX Cluster. CC-User (also
known as AR-User) monitors and connection and reconnects when it
detects a disconnect. A number of Writelog users find this a reliable
way of staying connected. Go to
http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/writelog and click
searchable archives and enter VE7CC for quite a lot of discussion on
it's use. I use CC-User in conjunction with DXBase2007, not because I
have trouble staying connected, but because it offers a lot of benefits
beyond auto reconnect.
Lee's VE7CC CC-Cluster (ve7cc.net port 23) is likely a good choice.
Lee has the DNS set up so that if his system goes down the address is
redirected to my CC-Cluster at DXSPOTS.NET port 23. When he goes down
I can get an extra 300 users on my system! You could connect directly
to my system to see if it is reliable.
