I copied your files into the c:\documents and settings, etc. and restarted
writelog. Still no joy.

Attached are what I have in that folder - one doesn't have a filename (didn't
know you could do that).
I have no idea what these do or why they are needed but it seems to work this
way. When I installed WL I let it default to the program files folder - don't
know if that caused the problem or not. But reinstalled it to c:\writelog and
compared the writelog.ini files and after a lot of trial and error found this.
My USA_Extra.subbands is in the writelog\programs folder.

Hi Paul,
I have XP Pro on the new PC.
I looked at the ini file per your suggestion. Sure enough, it was pointing
to an empy folder, c/documents and settings/JEBrown/My
Documents/Writelog/Contest
I copied the USA_Extra.Subbands file into there. However, when I started
Writelog, the problem was still there.
What is the "bandmap Subbands" file that you mention?
Jim

I found a similar problem when I installed Win7 on a new harddrive. Check
your writelog.ini for the
Datafiles= entry. It should point to a folder containing a .Subbands and
a bandmap.Subbands files.
Mine were in c:\users\W2LE\Documents\Writelog\contest
Also the edit subbands program would not find the subbands files either.
My writelog.ini is now in c:\windows a change from Vista.

My problems setting things up after switching to a new PC continue.
Operating in the TARA RTTY contest tonight, all my spots coming in from
the cluster show red (out of band), even if they are not. The bandmap
will not show the band edges (the red stripe), indicating (I guess) that
there is no band data being read. However, the "USA_Extra.SubBands"
file is in the Writelog\Programs directory. Editing the subbands seems
to make no difference. Using the "Show Bands" command under the "Band"
menu shows the proper frequencies.
The ini file shows:
BandEdgeFile=USA_Extra.SubBands
ShowBandEdges=1
Any suggestions?
Thanks Jim W4LC
