Hi Gang,
Please, if anybody knows ALL ABOUT SG-237.
I purchased this SmartTuner in July because my
LDG AT-200Pro Autotuner performs only 7-21
mHz. Another bands - with "HISWR", 1.8 and 50
don't included.
I fired a 160' loop on a big tree, put the tuner
on a twig above my trayler and started to tune
using 10 w of FT-897. All bands worked with
SWR 1.1 to 1.5, but 1.8 and 50. I lengthened the
wire (14 AWG with thick insulation) to 269' on
2 big trees. 1.8 and 50 worked only sometimes.
SWR of another bands also was unstable.
I made adjustments of the length under the
email directions of SGC technical support.
Once all bands were with SWRs 1.1 to 1.2,
including 1.8 and 50! I was so happy! But on
the next day all SWRs were bad. I informed SGC.
They were surprised saying that the tuner should
work at ANY length. Finally they adviced me
to send them the tuner for repair. I did, informed
them the trucking # and got their conclusion.Read it.
Now I'm using the LDG Autotuner with 1:1 balun
on twig. SWRs are 1.5 on 7 to 21, on others too
high. I live in RV camping resort with Rule 31:
"No ham radio usage". I'm illegal and my signal
shouldn't produce QRM. But I love contests.
I think, SG-237 either was damaged before my
purchase or it's components corresponds to
MARINE "consumption", not amateur radio in full.
TKS for any idea,
Leo, N3GD in Davenport, FL

Dear Leo,
Once we receive your unit and complete a diagnostic evaluation we will then
determine how we will proceed. Your antenna is very strange. WIth all the
tree
moss, etc. we don't see how it can hold a tune. It should be hung freely with
no contact with any part of the tree - that means removing any surrounding
branches, twigs, etc that can 'sway' into contact with the antenna. Then you
could to a basic test on all bands and verify you have a solid match.
Best regards,
SGC Technical Support
