Larry,

Under Writelog's Setup|Ports make sure POLLING for the port selected is 
'checked', while there make sure Comm PTT = No as it is not needed.
Do make sure you select a fixed port speed ie.: 9600 and not auto in either 
the logging program or on the rig.

You should be good to go,
