I know this may not be the exact answer to your question, but...
I bought my 736R new in 1995 if your serial number is higher than mine, it's
a 90's, lower 80's. Serial number 5C910017 was purchased in July of 95. It
has thousands of hours of use and 10s of thousands in standby and never had
a single problem (knock on wood) It's been the most reliable rig I have ever
owned. If everything was made as well as this rig, repair centers would
have fallen by the wayside years ago.

About the only way I'm aware of is to research old magazines to find
out when the model in question was advertised and reviewed.
