Equipment Description:
950sd/SB220 Dummy Load & 3 El Mono Bander
Figured would get at least 3 elements of my HM 5 ele monobander
in fixed position on tower early Saturday morning. Managed to jury rig
a gin pole to the tower to hold antenna in place as a side mount at 40 ft
level.
Next task was to determine which would be the best fixed position.
Computer said this three ele had only about 10 db FB ( it lied BTW ).
Figured with back to west I am beamed approx 95 degrees so that
splits Africa and Europe and with the skewed path we often get from
EU should be able to get lots of mults from that direction and still work US.
Yeah right !
Spent most of the good opening on Saturday running up and down tower,
antenna had great band width ( hi !! ) but didn't hear very well so resorted to
using 40 meter antenna to work few stations. Finally remembered I had
replaced ten meter lead on coax switch with dummy load a few days earlier.
Yes I actually worked a few stns on my dummy load !! Will never know how good
conditions really were hi !
Sunday was a wash out. No west coast from here not one 7 or 6 in log.
Europe was non existent Guess it doesn't pay to leave it all till last minute.
Installing antennas in minus 15 wind chill wx numbs the brain ( excuse ).
