Comments:
Conditions seemed pretty good overall, although 15 meters was a total dud just
like last year. Sweep came real easy as the last two (ND,NL) called me within
a few Q's of each other during a run on 40M early Sunday morning. I was also
lucky enough to come across VY1EI on 20M on 14150 listening up 1. He must have
just started, because there was no pileup and I got through on the first call.
Never had anything above the normal rates. Struggled to maintain my target of
at least 80/hour for the first four hours. Interesting phenomena is seeing the
rate jump up for a good short run, and almost all the stations are "U" or "M".
Pretty easy to tell when you've been spotted. Was looking like I might really
improve on last years Q total, but I fell off the rate cliff in the last few
hours. One extra mult (NL) which I missed last year will help. Lot's of close
Q totals from K7BG, N4ZZ, and K5NZ in the early going. Hope I'm lucky enough to
come out on top again.
Sure seemd to be tons of Alaska activity. Remember when it used to be rare?
Oh, did I mention that the change in daylight savings didn't occur to me and I
tried starting the contest an hour earlier? Good thing, because I ran into
some glitches with N1MM (my first time using it in SS) and it took me almost
the whole hour to get things working. This was in spite of what I thought was
pretty rigorous testing the week before the contest.
GMCC well represented in this one. Glad to hear from AD1C and his killer
stealth antenna!
