Comments:

Complements to Brad K7ZSD and the gang for a great battle for Oregon Multi-op
honors. After whipping us last year it looks like NK7U will end up on top this
year. Congrats to the big Multi-ops down south, NX5M, W5WMU, etc. Great scores.
We look forward to the days with improved 10M propagation and then we might be
able to give you "a run for the money". For now you really know how to work
your low band advantage to turn in some amazing scores.

Our score was well up from last year -- 296K last year to this year's 410K for
a 38% increase.

15M was in great shape at the start of the contest and we cranked off a 175
hour followed up with a 123. Things slowed down from there but unlike last year
we didn't give up on the band. We kept calling CQ and passing stations from 20M
to 15M and we really made the most of the band. Most of our score increase was
due to the better 15M. In fact on 160-20 our score was only up 2% over last
year -- a few more Q's and a few less mults. 15M was the star. Last year we
were 63 X 16 vs this year's 418 X 36.

20M was solid as expected. K7MK grabbed 14181 at the start and turned in a
great 170 hour. We stayed on that freq for 5 1/2 hours, turning in 5 hours over
100. Our 57 mults were solid but not amazing.

If we had a weak band it was 40M. We got off to a bad start with some PC and
Radio configuration problems we didn't check out before the contest. Then the
band was just a bit odd. It went long early, had a hour or so when it seemed to
go away and then came back. Some of the other Pac NW stations commented on the
same. Our QSO were well down from last year though the 49 mults were pretty
good.

80M was really solid for us this year. Over the summer Joe put in a rotating
dipole at 150' to complement his 4--square. This gave us something with a
pattern we could aim due east, vs the 4 square which is optimized for the usual
NE, SE, NW, SW DX oriented directions. We need to look at the QSO distributions
in more detail but our Q's and Mults were well up this year over last -- 350 X
53 this year vs 198 X 48 last year. It took a while for the band to open
solidly east of the Mississippi but when it did we were "off to the races" with
NK7U at the controls on his favorite band. He turned in a 108 final hour which
goes to show how much fun the final hour can be.

160M was really noisy this year and as a result we had a hard time hearing
stations east of the Mississippi. Q's and mults were well down compared to last
year.

Great participation from Canada this year. Plenty of "VE1" area stations on, we
had 25 different VE3's in log, and even two different VE8's. DX participation
seemed a bit down to us relative to past years.

Thanks again to everyone for all the Q's.

Scott/K7ZO
