Comments:
Did this one from my lake cabin "Super Station." IC-718/FL-2100, 500 watts to a
36 ft. high inverted-L. Good prop to EU both nights with moderate QRN Saturday.
Was able to work many stations I would not have even heard at my home QTH.
Interestingly, I found the simple little IC-718 (w/250hz filter) to be a rather
good performer in this single-station application. Sure, its receiver doesn't
match the performance of the high-end contest rigs, but even with all of the
strong signals on the band it held up well and pulled in the weak ones. I was
convinced that I could not have added any more points to my score by using a
$10K radio at this QTH. (A $10K antenna would be another story, however!)
Great fun with a modest setup in a low-noise environment.
Thanks for the Q's! 73 - Paul, K0PK
