Again, what a blast!
After last year, the question was"how many, if anye, would be like that
again?". I was watching the conditions for the wek prior and saw that
the recent peak was reall lst Monday and Tuesday and a slow but steady
slide was occuring during the week and crossing right through the contest
weekend. So it was clear that the contest would not be as "technically
good" as 2011...but would it be "good enough". Obviously the answer was
yes, it was good enough. 10M still rocked both days. JA was runnable for
a time on 15M (although not 10M from here - worked JA and zone 27 but no
deep Asia). And 20M was it much better global shape (although the huge
07 - 0830Z EU openings did not occur that were occuring earlier in the
week).
But after last year being essentially "caught off guard" by how to handle
such conditions with the type of station I have and favorable location, I
was ready for what came this time. My goal was simple...beat last year's
score and improve my UBN. I knew at the half, equally or beating my last
year was "in the cards" and it motivated me through the second day.
Best rates ever experienced from here. My best clock hour rate last year
was 142 and this year I had 4 hours above that with my best clock being 180.
My best 60 mins was 210 and it was Sunday morning.
160M was the worst ever experienced with absoultely nothing across the pond.
No zone 14 or even zone 33. 80M, for the second year, was more open than
activity allowed to harvest even though being down. 40M was pretty darned
good consdidering.
All in all a fabulous experience. Hoping the antennas all survive Sandy since
time and weather will be limiting repairs at this point.
Thanks to all for the Qs and the fun.
