K3/P3, AL1200, Inv-L with FCP
I have deployed several different 160m antennas over the years on this lot and
found none of them very effective. A year ago I thought I would try something
new, the K2AV 160m Inv-L with folded counterpoise. Like the previous antennas,
it was a mediocre performer and it also seemed to pick up a lot of noise.
Before giving up on the FCP, I inquired with its inventor Guy, K2AV, about what
I may be doing wrong. Guy was kind enough to respond with several pointers. Over
time I made the changes he suggested, in not only the Inv-L but in other wire
antennas, resulting in what appears to be a good performer. I am really
delighted that I finally have something that works on 160!
I think I could have done a bit better this time had I operated past 0630Z each
day and had some sort of Rx antenna. Something to work on for the Stew and
CQ160.
