Comments:
Our 2018 Hesston College ARC Sweepstakes team included seven aviation students
and one nursing student. Grace (nursing), Gracie, Jessica, Ellie, Payne, Gavin,
Wyatt and Tom (all unlicensed), enjoyed their weekend immensely and kept coming
back for more.
The team started practicing in September with the California QSO Party as our
first competition. The practice paid off for Sweepstakes and so did teamwork. We
alternated QSOs with our search and pounce station, and team members helped pull
calls out of pileups. Everyone took turns logging and talking, and our
"special team" of Gracie, Grace, Jessica and Ellie made short work of
multiplier pileups!
We didn't work VI in the CW Sweepstakes, so we needed the Sweep to keep our
Sweepstakes mug collection since 2004 alive. PR fell early and later VI, but
when we stopped for the "night" around 2:30am, we were still six
sections short. 80m had only one loud stations CQing when we started up again on
Sunday morning, but it was NE so we were now down to five. The last five in
order were ME GTA ID ONN and AK, with our Sweep from NL7V at 1839Z.
It's always fun to chat with the other School stations (in order worked): W9JWC
W9YB W4AQL W6UE W0EEE W8EDU K9IU K5LSU. We only worked 10 dupes this year.
The students really appreciated those of you who took time to chat with them.
Most of our team members will be returning next year, perhaps as licensed hams
(including interest in Morse code). We want to thank all of you for being out
there for us to work, and we hope to hear you again in 2019! Our log has been
uploaded to LOTW.
