Thanks for the QSOs. Thanks for the DARC for sponsoring the Contest.
This year's WAE CW Contest was bitter-sweet as during last year's WAE CW
Contest, a micro-burst sent a couple of my neighbor's 80 ft pine trees across
one set of guy wires holding up my 130 ft tower. The tower along with a pair of
40 m Moxons, 140 ft and 70 ft, a 4 el SteppIR at 130 ft and an 80 m inverted vee
at 120 ft were destroyed. Even the rotor inside the tower was damage beyond
repair. Fortunately, the tower didn't fall on the house, but it did crush the
backup whole house generator. The neighbor's trees cause other trees to fall
which did damage the house. Fortunately, the damage to the house has been fixed
and I do have dipoles until another tower and antenna system. The new tower
will not be as tall nor as well populated with aluminum. Hopefully, now that
all the damage has been taken care of, the new tower and antenna will be in
place, possibly, for this year's WAE RTTY Contest and definitely for next year's
WAE CW
This year only a couple of dipoles, 80 m at 30 ft and 40 m at 20 ft, were
available for the Contest. Still they performed better than expected.
What a difference between last year's WAE CW Contest and this year's. Even had
great weather this year, sunny and hot.
