An interesting contest for sure! I might be back net year. It wasn't
exhilarating like a CW contest but it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.
It had some of the same "knobs" to turn as a CW 'test as well as a few
extras needed to maximize score/unit time. Band, beam heading, FT8 or FT4, even
or odd, distance and S/N to determine who to call first when callers stack up,
when to add 73RR at the end and when not to and how to deal with non-contest ops
to name a few. Slow enough on FT8 to do lots of beam turning. FT4 was the best
when the Qs kept coming back-to-back.

I logged in WSJT and so my reported score is a conservative estimate based on my
guestimate of >16 points per average contact; its a long way from KH6 land to
anywhere else. Of course there will be some dupes plus loss from ops who did not
log me due to the abbreviated exchange. It was almost all running until the last
few hours when I did S&P after deciding I could dupe fast enough by ordering
the WSJT log alphabetically and quickly scrolling to the appropriate area.

Alternating FT8/FT4 as needed, plus CQing even and then odd when things slowed
down, did the trick. My rate averaged 35/hour. The added FT4/8 contest subbands
sure helped everyone. Most ops were running WSJT in WW Digital mode. Ops who
worked in standard FT4/8 QSO format slowed things down but that's the way it
goes. I hope this was a fun intro to contesting for new hams.
