Hypersil or C Cores are an alternative choice when:
1- space is limited
2- weight is important
3- you enjoy spending extra money
Top quality conventional designs with modern materials no longer have the
20-40% efficiency penalty of several years ago. Today it is in the 10-15%
range or less.
A conventional 2.5Kva transformer used and sold here weighs 53 lbs
compared to 46 lbs for an identical rated Dahl. Regulation at the full
load is 7% which is pretty decent. It is also 22% cheaper.
