1000-1200 W is the safe max and even then keep the heat sink cool.
 New tubes are around $500 each so the choice is yours.

Call Henry for a guaranteed correct answer. I have been using RatShack
silicone based compound on the Heathkit SB-230 ( single 8873) for years
with no problems but maybe we will both learn something.

Heath just calls it thermal compound and has no warnings about
substitutes. They do warn of eye and clothing danger while using.
