I would suspect that one tube is-was running a lot hotter and caused the
crack. Another possibility was excessive pressure on the clamp.
The crack may possibly be repaired....outdoors. I have cleaned off arc
marks by sanding underwater with wet-dry 220 grit.
Clean the thermal compound off thouroughly and epoxy the crack...wipe off
any that seeps thru before it dries. I have successfully repaired several
SB-230 links this way. When remounting just use enough pressure to make
contact.
