Rich asks about my 'testing' method for the PS choke.... he he he One of
these day's I'll cook together a hi-pot tester, but this little problem was
determined using the 'modified smoke' test approach.

First indication was a loud ZAP followed by a tripped main CB. I've worried
about the choke since day 1 since it's only rated to 3KV.

I wired the primary pf the power tranny to run on 120VAC - and all was well
at 2KV DC (RF chassis disconnected). Then I stepped thru the 6 primary taps
on the transformer until it was appx 3KV, another ZAP after a few seconds.
I ran it for maybe 10 minutes @ 2KV - but not too long as I don't want to
'grow' any more of a carbon trail than necessary.

I suspect it'll be just fine in the CT of the tranny - at least until I can
get around to pulling it out an possibly repairing / rewinding it.

Thanks Rich and Peter for the input on sticking it in the CT. I'm not in
the least
worried about the HV transformer. It's a huge oil filled thing with big
glass insulators for the HV and the CT - I suspect the CT can take the extra
volts. And I have some additional resonating caps I can play with too.

73 es THX again, Bill N2BC
