Thanks, John for all that interesting and useful information.

Just one small point, in case anyone is getting worried about the
DuPont safety information:
> Open and use containers only in well-ventilated
>areas using local exhaust ventilation (LEV). Vapors and fumes
>liberated during hot processing, or from smoking tobacco or
>cigarettes contaminated with Teflon® or Tefzel® fluoropolymer resins,
>may cause flu-like symptoms (chills, fever, sore throat) that may not
>occur until several hours after exposure and that typically pass
>within about 36 to 48 hours.

That's all about handling Teflon/Tefzel in the fine powder form (aka
resin) that is supplied for hot pressing into rod, sheet and other
fancier shapes. As with any dusty material, you need not to breathe it
in, and especially not through a burning cigarette.

The precautions do not apply to the solid chunks of Teflon that we
typically use.

However, this part does apply to us:
>Vapors and fumes liberated during hot
>processing should be exhausted completely from the work area;
>contamination of tobacco with polymers should be avoided.
