Couldn't help but respond to this subject. At least in the U.S., the
NEMA 6-20 type connectors is a popular one for 240 VAC appliances at a
maximum of 20 amperes. The NEMA 6-50 type is the connectors of choice
for 240 VAC at a maximum of 50 amperes. Both these are for single phase
with ground. Stay away from twist lock types unless you have to, such
as hanging appliances from a ceiling. Twist locks tend not to be
twisted in properly, in more convenient situations. Hence causing partially
melted
plastic parts in the receptacle and/or plug. They can be a fire hazard
by not being installed (twisted in) properly even though they are
National Electrical Code approved.

I emailed the above directly but had to put this on the reflector for
everybody's perusal.

I suggest that you don't use a receptacle/plug combination any bigger than
necessary for lower resistance. You can run into problems such as wires
fitting properly into terminal holes and end up cutting off strands etc.
Also, straight not curved blades have lower reactance and let's see the
sparks fly fron Rich on this one. :)

Again,
GD DX,
Ed
