Hi Phil,
The 1980 ARRL Handbook showcases (it's on the cover!) that tube in a
linear amp which represents a retreat in the state of the art. The
description remains in the Handbook through 1984. I don't know when it
was originally published -- presumably in QST.
A Tesla Coil enthusiast would probably appreciate using that tube more
than any Ham, though the lamp suggestion is a close second!
