I asked:
>...What do AMPS members suggest for [high-SWR] protective circuits?...
Thanks to the many who responded, many directly to me, off-list. The
winning combination, IMO, is to
1. buy an RF Applications, Inc., VFD Series, directional, peak, wattmeter
<http://radiodan.com/rfapps/vfd.htm>, either the 3- or the 5-kW model, with
the SWR Alarm Relay option; and
2. use the SWR alarm relay to apply cutoff ALC voltage to the exciter; this
method protects the amplifier's relays, so it's better than just de-keying
the amp.
On <http://www.eham.net/reviews/products/40> I also found a bunch of
testimonials to this device/method.
