Terry.... I don`t think envelope coloring (or the lack of it!) is any
indicator of tube output capibility as far as the 4-1000 family of tube is
concerned.I have tested a lot of filthy looking bottles that were super high
output, as well as some very clean tubes that were duds! I do agree with
your power output specs though,I test my tubes pretty much as you do,and pay
special note to fil voltage at full power. These tubes have been around for
a long time now and still do a respectable job if the power supply being
used is ample for the job, and the operator uses a small amount of common
sense.A deck useing two tubes is easier to drive,and produces some rather
interesting results!
