Were you able to make a choke which had *no* resonances throughout the
HF spectrum?  That's the crux of the issue, and from what I hear, nobody
has been able to do it without some kind of switching scheme.

Having said that however, you are probably right about it being more
trouble than it's worth for hams.  For a commercial amp which must cover
the whole HF spectrum, it may be worthwhile.
