Hi,
A very good friend has an Emtron DX3 which works very well and with which he
is extremely happy. There is however an issue which we believe is related
not so much to the amplifier as the driving radio. The amp uses the GU-84B
tube which is specified as having a G1 rating of only 1 watt. For this, we
assume, they have included a quite extensive protection circuit which
appears to be tripping on first syllables. The radio being used to drive the
amplifier is predominantly an old TS-820. I seem to recall that some radios
have a design deficiency in that the ALC circuit is less than optimum
allowing a large intial power spike to hit the amplifier. Disabling the
protection would seem to be inappropriate since this would allow the spike
to hit the tube so we are interested to know what can be done, if anything,
to prevent the radio causing this problem. I believe that a TS-450 is also
sometimes used but I am not sure if this does or does not cause the same
thing to happen.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
